Develop a sustainable mask that can be mass-produced from a single sheet and assembled with simple instructions

Hamadryas Baboon.

Representing wisdom, community, and strength, a baboons' power is often overlooked. 

Bringing forth these qualities into a wearable, enjoyable form offers people a way to embody and appreciate the baboon's character. 

The Research.

  • Prominent Eyebrow Ridge

  • Hollow Cheekbones

  • Distinct Mane

Challenge:
From the strong jaw to the prideful mane, the baboon carries features that cannot be ignored. The challenge lies in representing them within the constraints of a single sheet of Bristol while keeping the mask easily recognizable

PROTOTYPING

A full set of traits were pieced together to define adjustments and a complete mask

Slight details to the nostrils and eyes were added to pull together the overall form.

Rudimentary prototypes with varying combinations to determine the most effective designs

PIECE BY PIECE

Divided each trait into different variations, and making different combinations to see the best results.

Final Assembly

All pieces had to fit on a single 18x24 in Bristol sheet.

Pieces were translated into Adobe Illustrator and cut out using a CNC Oscillating Knife Cutter.

User Interaction

An instruction sheet was made to simplify complex forms, and understand the assembly process.
